Pappo Restaurant
Rhubarb Seating was invited by the owner of a new Italian restaurant in Oxford to put forward a proposal for all the loose furniture and booth seating for both the interior and an extensive outside area.
The Challenge
The restaurant concept was to provide a flexible offering that spanned breakfast through to dinner and included a focus on family dining at the weekends. There were therefore a variety of seating areas required to cater for everything from a café style to more formal dining, together with the obvious requirement for a minimum number of covers.
And while this may sound like a minor issue, one of the most difficult challenges was finding fabrics that precisely matched the olive green of the brand identity – green, it seems, is a hard colour.
Project Scope
From the very early days of the project, when the space was still being planned, we worked alongside the owner and his team to advise on both the selection of seating and other loose furniture and on fabrics.
We selected different styles of seating for the café section and for the main dining area. The only fixed elements of the seating were our curved Kolbak units which created the booth-style seating areas so popular with diners. All the other units – the straight booth seating along the windows and the smaller tables along the centre with our Oregon chairs, were movable to provide the flexibility to accommodate any numbers from couples to large groups.
Dark green and olive green velvets were chosen for the backs of all the restaurants seating with vinyl seats for easy cleaning and durability.
How we Delivered
Last minute changes to the layout of the interior meant we had to change the dimensions and design of one of the booth units and when it came to the install, we were liaising constantly with the on-site joinery team who would be responsible for creating the timber surround for all the curved booth seating.
The result was a restaurant designed to cater for a variety of guests and occasions.
