Student accommodation is quite often a young person’s first experience of living away from home. The mixed feelings of excitement and nerves can leave students feeling anxious so the quality of their living conditions can often be a key consideration in their choice of location.
Rhubarb Seating has extensive experience of delivering the high standard of seating needed to create welcoming and comfortable communal and social spaces as well as the shared areas in student flats. We work with partners who deliver the fitted elements of the bedrooms and kitchens so we are able to provide a turnkey solution where this is required.
Working with the Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) sector
At Rhubarb our team has years of experience working alongside clients, contractors and project design teams to ensure we deliver seating that withstands the demanding requirements of PBSA and we are able to flex our production around project delivery schedules. Our in-house design team listen to the project brief to space plan, offer expert advice on product selection and design bespoke, cost-effective seating. We can produce floor plans and 3D renders to help clients visualise how the furniture will look in situ.
We manufacture seating suitable for student bedrooms, shared kitchens, communal lounges, social areas, and for specialist leisure areas such as gaming, music and cinema rooms. We have delivered projects ranging from a seating refresh of selected rooms all the way through to delivering the full loose furniture schedule for an 800 bed student accommodation block.
Student Kitchens – A Social Space to Eat, Relax & Chat
As the central hub the shared kitchen is a space for students to socialise, unwind, and test their culinary skills (or heat up a ready meal in the microwave). It is a busy environment and must be robust enough to withstand spills and the general rigours of every day use. Durable and wipe clean seating is a must to prolong longevity, but careful fabric selection can offer this in addition to a ‘home from home’ look and feel.
Student Bedrooms – Private Spaces to Sleep & Study
The dual functionality of a student bedroom is carefully considered at design stage. These private spaces must offer a retreat for students to rest as well as provide quiet areas to study. In many student accommodation developments, the bedrooms are clustered in flats with communal lounge and kitchen areas for each cluster, where relaxed seating is a must.
Bespoke Product Design & Upholstery Skills
Our in-house design and manufacturing capabilities mean we can design seating made to your exact requirements and measurements. We offer upholstery services including re-upholstery, headboards, window seats, auditorium seat pads, bolsters and cushions. We have designed and manufactured gaming chairs and luxury comfort sofas for student cinema rooms. We offer advice on fabrics and finishes so you have confidence the seating is fit for purpose. We offer a broad range of vinyl, faux leather or options for removable and washable fabric covers. We ensure chosen fabrics meet The Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 and recommend the use of Crib 5 fabrics.
Seating for all areas of Student Accommodation
Rhubarb Seating has a contemporary portfolio of tub chairs, armchairs, sofas, booths, stools, beanbags and modular seating suitable for creating comfortable and inspiring seating configurations for communal spaces. The flexibility of our modular soft seating units means we can easily create collaborative seating areas for socialising and functional layouts to optimise the use of space in student lounges and breakout areas. Our snugs, booths, and pods offer quiet study or meeting spaces and can help to create different zones or room dividers. Many of our standard ranges can be modified to suit your exact requirements, meaning that a change to our dimensions involves minimal design time - creating bespoke seating within budget and within a reasonable lead-time. We also have a broad range of multipurpose and task chairs to add style, colour and functionality across communal spaces, dining areas and study spaces.
